Visiting Kyiv can be exciting, but the adventure should stop at your hotel's doors. If you need a nice hotel where the staff speaks English, consider Hotel Rus.
Built in 1979, Hotel Rus is a three-star, business class hotel located at the top of a hill in central Kyiv. Don't let the Soviet-style appearance of this 22-floor high rise scare you. Inside, renovations have been completed on all 433 air-conditioned rooms (including 36 suites). For those language-challenged travelers, most of Hotel Rus' staff can speak English, if needed, which is a pleasant change from the staff at most Kyiv hotels that only speak Russian and Ukrainian.
The hotel sits on a hill in the city's central district, overlooking Republic Stadium. Just around the corner is the major indoor sports arena, Palats Sportu, as well as the Palats Sportu metro station. If you feel like shopping or seeing some sights, a five minute walk will get you to Bessarab'ska Market, at the north end of Khreschatik Street. You can then stroll along the 1.5 kilometers of Khreschatik, checking out Independence Square and the many shops and restaurants lining the street. Many other attractions such as St. Sophia's Cathedral, St. Michael's Monastery, and Andriivsky Uzviz are short walks from Khreschatik.
All rooms are equipped with satellite TV and a direct international phone line. Non-smoking rooms and rooms designed for people with disabilities are also available. A European buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. One item of note is that most of the rooms' electrical outlets will not work unless activated with your key card just inside your door.
Other services include 24-hour room service, concierge services, laundry and dry-cleaning, a currency exchange desk (with very good exchange rates), ATM, souvenir shop, pharmacy, beauty salon, and individual and group tours of the city.
The hotel can also arrange for airport transportation. If you want to avoid the hassle of dealing with taxi drivers at the airport, email the hotel several days before your arrival with your flight information and they will have a driver meet you (there is a charge for this service).
After a long day, quench your thirst at one of the hotel's two bars or sit down to a filling meal at one of several restaurants offering a selection of European and Ukrainian cuisine.
